Dakota Heirlooms

Dakota Heirlooms is a collection of true stories from senior citizens living in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The anthology features stories about love, stories about hope, and stories about perseverance. There are charming “slices of life” anecdotes mixed with harrowing tales surrounding major historical events, such as the Great Depression, Midwest blizzards, and the Black Hills Flood of 1972—which killed 238 and injured over 3,000. There are personal histories spanning from childhood to adulthood; tales of families migrating to the expansive region originally known as Dakota Territory; and tales of how the South Dakota landscape and culture captured the hearts of those who put down roots here. I am honored to present this superb collection of stories, so that you may smile, laugh and maybe even shed a tear as you immerse yourselves in the lives of these authors.
